For STT: Word Error Rate (WER) (esp. for legal terms, noisy audio). For Information Extraction/Classification: Precision & Recall. For Image Generation: Fidelity & Consistency.
      • Real-World Testing is Mandatory!: Never rely solely on vendor marketing, demos, or generic benchmark scores. Insist on opportunities for thorough, comparative testing (Proof of Concept - PoC) or small-scale pilot projects using your own representative, real-world (but strictly anonymized!) data and tasks. Only real environment testing reveals true performance and limitations.

    • Quantify Potential Return on Investment (ROI): Where possible, quantify the potential benefits/value from adopting the AI tool:
      • Quantifiable Efficiency Gains: How much human labor time (multiplied by personnel cost) is saved?
      • Quantifiable Cost Savings: How much reduction in outsourcing fees (e.g., document review vendors), operational costs (printing/storage)?
      • Qualitative but Important Value: Improved work quality, reduced errors, shortened project cycles, enhanced client satisfaction, strengthened risk control, competitive advantage, improved employee experience, etc. Attempt to describe qualitatively or estimate roughly.

Or a startup with an uncertain future? Consult independent industry reports, customer reviews, news articles to gauge market reputation and client success stories (especially in the legal sector).
    • Service Stability & Service Level Agreements (SLA): Do they offer clear, robust SLAs? What are the commitments for uptime (e.g., 99.9%? 99.99%?), performance standards, Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), issue response times? What are the remedies/credits for failing to meet SLAs?
    • Quality & Professionalism of Technical Support: Do they provide timely, effective, professional technical support? What are the support channels? Response speed? Does the support team understand the specific needs and terminology of the legal industry? Do enterprise clients get dedicated Customer Success Managers (CSMs)?
    • Product Roadmap & Continuous Updates: Do they have a clear, convincing product development roadmap? Can they sustain R&D investment to keep pace with AI advancements and regularly update/iterate their models/platform, ensuring continued user benefit?
    • Contract Terms & Exit Strategy: Carefully review contract terms regarding term length, renewal, price adjustments, early termination conditions/process. If switching vendors in the future, is user data export convenient? Is the data format standard and portable? Is there a risk of excessive Vendor Lock-in?
